The catalogue Subversive Practices, published in the framework of the eponymous exhibition at the Württembergischer Kunstverein in 2009, focuses on experimental and conceptual artistic practices generated under conditions of political repression in South America and Europe during the nineteen-sixties to eighties. Artistic practices are explored that not only call into question the traditional conception of art, the institution, or the relationship between art and public, but that were also posited against the existing political systems of power. Subversive Practices offers—besides documentation of the exhibition, in which over three hundred works were presented, and an introduction to its thematic fields—contributions by the thirteen co-curators as well as texts, manifestos, and scripts originating in the nineteen-sixties to eighties, with most translated into German and English for the first time.
